Thousands of Artworks at Bálna – A Weekend in the World of Contemporary Art and Design
Thousands of artworks, including paintings, sculptures, rare photographs, and contemporary jewelry, will fill Bálna this weekend. From October 2 to 4, the fourth edition of Budapest Contemporary welcomes visitors with nearly 70 exhibitors and thousands of art pieces. Beyond collectors, the fair offers plenty to discover for anyone looking to get closer to contemporary art through personal encounters, guided tours, or unique interiors.
The Worlds of Dezső Váli and György Király Meet in the Horn Collection
The Horn Collection is featured in a dedicated section. Selected by art collector Péter Horn, the exhibition brings together works by two painters of different generations: Dezső Váli and György Király. For decades, Dezső Váli has been exploring the interior space of the studio. György Király’s paintings take still lifes and everyday objects arranged on a table as their starting point. Despite their seemingly distinct color palettes, both artists share a focus on minimalist, serene, almost monochromatic compositions that emphasize the fading outlines of thought and memory. Their works do not inquire; instead, they offer a sense of calm amid the noise of a vibrant world. The ensemble of objects, vases, and studio spaces depicted on the canvases becomes a guide for contemplative focus—a place where there are no questions, only answers.
