The Collector
Péter Horn
Péter Horn views art collecting as an intellectual challenge, a value-based investment, a form of social responsibility, and a treasure hunt.
He considers it important to raise the social recognition of art collecting in Hungary and to increase the number of collectors, thereby helping contemporary artists to sustain their careers.
Through the Horn Collection's Instagram page, he regularly shares pieces from his collection to honour the artists’ work, make the artworks visible, and allow others to enjoy the collection. Since 2004, his collection has grown to nearly 700 pieces, and Horn feels a strong commitment to the artists he collects. He believes it is crucial that the Horn Collection represents all significant periods of the artists' careers.
He maintains ongoing relationships with the living artists whose works play an important role in his collection.
A significant moment in his journey was meeting art dealer Kálmán Makláry in 2006, through whom he discovered the art of Judit Reigl. He had the opportunity to meet Reigl in person on several occasions and purchased multiple works from her.
Horn views including young, emerging painters in his collection as a social responsibility. This commitment is reflected in his role as a founding member of the Friends of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts and as a regular visitor of contemporary art exhibitions.
