Biography
She was born in Budapest, where she began her studies at the school of Álmos Jaschik, then in 1928 continued in Paris, where she became acquainted with several styles, including Cubism, which had a great influence on her. In Vienna, thanks to Alfred Cosmann, she also learned engraving and etching. In Paris, she became a student of André Lhote and later Fernand Léger. She participated in the French Salon d'Automne (Autumn Salon) with etchings and drawings, achieving great success. Furthermore, she took part in the following prestigious events: Salon des Indépendants, Salon des Surindépendants, Salon de Mai, Salon du Printemps.
In 1935, she held a solo exhibition at the Storran Gallery in London. During World War II, she worked as a press caricaturist. In 1959, she won an international award: the Prix International de la Peinture. Besides painting, drawing, and etching, she was also engaged in stage and costume design, stained glass design, as well as creating illustrations. Until the late 1940s, she typically created figurative paintings whose main themes were harbors and nature. Then she turned towards abstraction; in her darker-hued compositions, imaginary, surreal landscapes can be recognized. In 1970, she participated with abstract and figurative works in the exhibition "20th Century Artists of Hungarian Origin Abroad" organized by Krisztina Passuth at the Műcsarnok (Hall of Art).
In 1973, she once again held a solo exhibition at the Galerie Camille Renault in Paris, and thanks to its success, she was invited again in 1976. Subsequently, the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris purchased one of her works. In 1975, she participated in the exhibition "Peintures et Sculptures des Artistes Hongrois en France" organized by Galerie Isis. In 1982, she took part in the group exhibition "Tribute to the Homeland" at the Műcsarnok.
